that the kitten understands where to do his "things." Watch after him very carefully at first. If the kitten did not go into the cat's litter box at once, periodically bring him there, reminding where the "place" is. The maine coon kittens in the age of three months and older usually understand it quickly and there

is no problems, especially, if you use the filler that was in the

parent house.

Show the kitten where the water and food are; play with it, luring to the place where it should sharpen the claws. Make sure that while the game the kitten sharpened its claws in the right place. Decide in advance whether you will let the kitten get on the kitchen table, and do not let him do it, say with a confident voice: "you cannot!" And remove it from the forbidden territory. Cats are very intelligent creatures and quickly understand what this is all about.

How to feed?

There are 3 types of feeding: natural, mixed and only industrial feed.

In our cattery we use a mixed type of feeding: we prefer industrial dry feeds of Holistic and Super Premium. Holistic is a new generation of food, it is completely balanced, for its preparation there are used only environmentally friendly products. If you choose feeding of this quality, the kitten does not need additional vitamins and supplements. It is not necessary to change cat food on adult or sterilized cats, the holistic is suitable for everyone: kittens, adults, and sterilized. The only problem is that you cannot buy it everywhere. Our maine coons eat with pleasure LEONARDO Kitten Holistic. But you remember that from the age of 10 months it will be necessary to switch from dry food for kittens to adult food. And it is better to continue with the same brand.

If it is impossible to buy this food in your city, it's okay. Super premium dry food can also suit, for example, Pro Plan Junior for kittens Chicken with rice or Royal Canin Kitten Maine Coon 36 for kittens. There is nothing wrong with pampering your maine coon with fresh meat if you are feeding with dry food. When our kittens are growing we can add turkey, chicken stomach once or twice a day to dry food,. It's also good to give veal or beef and quail eggs 1 piece 3 times a week. Never give pork. Whichever fresh meat you choose, it should be Lenten.

Divide the fresh meat into 100-200 g portions and keep for at least 48 hours in the freezer. It kills parasites and harmful bacteria that may be in fresh meat. Before you give the frozen meat to the kitten maine coon, it is necessary to unfreeze it completely and then pour it with boiling water. Adding meat, shrimp in the dry diet of the maine coon kitten, we make an imbalance in the calcium-phosphorus metabolism. The level of calcium and phosphorus in the blood should be about 1: 1. Meat contains phosphorus. Calcium is contained in bones, cartilage, cottage cheese. But our cats do not eat so many bones and cottage cheese to receive this balance. The parathyroid gland releases the hormone into the blood and regulates the level of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. And it doesn’t try to make phosphorus drops to the level of calcium, it calcium should raise to the level of phosphorus. Where does the body get calcium if it does not come with food? Of bone tissue. That’s why calcium is washed out of the bones. It leads to crooked paws, fractures, early loss of teeth, and in general to weak bones.

That’s why, if you chose mixed feeding, you need to add 150 mg of calcium to every 100 grams of meat. And calcium should not be "8in1" - synthetic, but natural. There are calcium preparations from the usual pharmacy such as the Sea Calcium (from marine invertebrates), Mountain calcium, Calcium (from the egg shell). Calcium should be natural or easily ingestible.

For example: 100g of raw meat contains 150 mg of phosphorus (and actually calcium 10 mg), dairy products contain the correct calcium-phosphorus ratio, but cannot compensate the excess of phosphorus in the body. Whichever new food you give to your kitten, always keep an eye on the substance of the animal's stool after that. If intestinal distress starts, cancel all innovations and leave the habitual feeding. No sausage, smoked meat, salted and fried food (you can damage a liver or pancreas). Like all cats maine coons are very fond of vobla, caviar (salted) and smoked squids, but it is forbidden. They also like to lap water from the tap, but not worth it, you can give them only filtered or bottled water. They very like shrimp; you can give it as a treat, but a little bit, just unfrozen.

Feeding bowls

When you choose dishes for the maine coon kitten, consider that Maine Coons like to rake the water with their paws and there is often a huge puddle around the bowl with water. So the ideal option is a tray with bowls. If you have one kitten in the house, it can fit small bowls with a volume of 0.3 liters. Do not pour a lot of dry food at once, so that it does not fade. Add as the kitten eats it. And always make sure that the water in the bowl is clean, the maine coons like to rinse their paws in the water, as a result - the water quickly becomes dirty, it is better to change it more often.

Security

Avoid toys with sparkles and elastic bands, It is dangerous, deadly, there may be an intestinal obstruction. The same is for the winter holidays, some Christmas toys and decoration (like sparkling tapes) is better to throw away. Threads with needles must be to locked up tightly, cats like to swallow threads and ropes, and if it get struck up in the intestine or at the end of the thread there will be a needle. Cats are very afraid of a draft. It is like with small children: all chemicals, shampoos, washing powders - out of reach (they can shed it, then lick - and here it is, poisoning). Make sure that the windows are blocked, the Maine Coons like "flying" after birds and butterflies... and they can fall out and die:-( Do not expect that the mosquito net will protect the maine coon from falling out, they are tearing it. All furniture should be analyzed for opening, jumping, jamming. After jumping from the cupboard or falling off the curtain, the kitten can get injured (imagine the baby in a cast and check everything again).

Toys

Kittens’ houses, balls (safe: not odorous, not crumbling, not biting, not swallowed. My pets love pipes from juice and gum for hair, and also all rustling, rattling, ringing stuff. You should buy all these befor the kitten’s arriving.

Taking care

You should accustom your kitten to combing at once, so that for it it is a habitual procedure. Just cares its back with one hand, and the same with the other hand bet with the comb in it. Do not try to comb the tail; otherwise it will not be fluffy. Focus on combing paws, armpits, tummy and chest. I advise you to cut the claw, especially if you have small children. Kittens can accidentally scratch your baby. Cut only the transparent part of the claw, without hurting the pulp. If you still injure the pulp by inexperience, do not panic, just apply cotton wool with hydrogen peroxide to the claw, the blood will quickly stop.

To wash the kitten of Maine Coon is better as necessary, if you see that the coat is very dirty. I can recommend 3 irreplaceable products. This is American cosmetics for animals Groomer`s Goop. First, put a degreasing paste on the dry wool, carefully rubbing it into the dirtiest areas of the wool. Leave for at least 5 minutes and completely wash it off with very warm water. Then we apply a degreasing shampoo, carefully massaging the entire body for 5 minutes and then just wash it off. The final stage is a conditioner. It is important not to overdo it; otherwise the wool will look even dirtier than it was before washing. Immediately rinse VERY thoroughly, the water draining from the wool must be perfectly clean. Wrap the cat in a large terry towel, let it soak in the water, and then wrap it in a new dry towel. Protect the Maine Coon from drafts; it should stay in a warm room until it dries completely. While the wool dries, comb it with a comb and it wall nicely lie on the body.

To clean the ears, eyes, nose you can buy special tools for treating eyes and ears. Ears do not need to be cleaned unless you see external excreta. If you notice natural emissions of sulfur (light brown), it is enough to wipe the pinna with a cotton swab.

It is necessary to get rid of worms every 3 months, it depends on the date of the last deworming indicated in the pet passport. After you cat gets one year old it is enough to get rid of worms every half a year. You can use different drugs for this purpose, both in tablets and droplets on the withers like Stronghold. In any pet shop the seller will help you to choose a medicine. I do not like the medicine in the form of a suspension, it is very difficult to completely "pour" into the cat, because they begin to spit it.

You take a fully vaccinated against rabies and viral diseases (rhinotracheitis, calciviroza, panleukopenia cats) Maine Coon kitten from the cattery. The next vaccination is necessary at the age of 1 year, it is better to vaccinate in the clinic with imported vaccines. befor 5-7 days before the vaccination you must prevent the appearance of worms by giving the medicine from them. If some guests came to you from the outside (fleas!), Buy Stronghold and give them to the kitten twice with an interval of 3 weeks. Stronghold is also good at killing worms, which are the companions of fleas.

During the first molt (it happens at the age of 10 months), it is necessary to give a paste to remove the wool from the stomach within 2, 3 weeks. You can buy it at pet stores.
